The Council of Trade Unions is keen on potential employment law changes to protect contractors

They include greater clarification of differences between contractors and employees

In a recent case, Auckland scaffolder Jahden Nelson was electrocuted on a building site.

As an independent contractor, he wasn't eligible for some employee rights, like ACC cover.

CTU Secretary Melissa Ansell-Bridges says these changes will help keep New Zealanders safe at work.

She says often contractors can have their work terminated without cause.
