For months, WBRC received dozens of calls and emails about missing mail and packages inside the United States Postal Service. While USPS denies all allegations, a whistleblower weighed in, pulling back the curtain on what they say is happening inside the organization.
We all depend on the U.S. Postal Service for information and even income.
“We started small, planning tomatoes, okra, zinnias and I made an Etsy page,” explained Hoover resident Emily Lawrence. “People started buying it, I couldn’t believe it.”
Lawrence used USPS to turn her passion projection into a full-time job.
“I quit my corporate job because I was making more [money] selling online,” Lawrence shared. “That was my dream, to bring live plants to my customers and help them grow their own food.”
Lawrence’s plant business not only took over her 9-5, but also her house. Spring was the busiest time, shipping plants to people across the country that didn’t have access to greenhouses or specific varieties of vegetables.
“California, Nevada – yes, it was shocking and so rewarding,” she explained.
Lawrence relied on 2-day shipping to connect with her customers. She perfected the packaging and her system to get the plants to their new home with little to no impact.
“I noticed my 2-day [shipping] turned out four days, then five days,” Lawrence recalled. “I would say to my customers, your plant is delayed, it’s probably not going to look good when you get it.”
