Aaron Sorkin returns to the world of Facebook with The Social Reckoning, a drama about whistleblower Frances Haugen and the Wall Street Journal investigation that exposed the social media giant's internal secrets.

The film’s latest trailer brings together Haugen, played by Oscar winner Mikey Madison, and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White), as they grapple with the consequences of taking on one of the world’s most powerful technology companies.

“I’m an investigative reporter, and that guy and this company are playing an unprecedented role in our lives,” Horwitz’s opening line sets up the central conflict of the film.

“That guy” refers to Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jeremy Strong, and “this company” being Facebook.

Described as a companion piece to The Social Network, Sorkin’s new film is inspired by the events behind The Facebook Files, the Wall Street Journal’s 2021 investigation based in part on documents provided by Haugen.

The trailer shows Haugen approaching Horwitz with information about Facebook, while making clear that her intention is not simply to attack the company. “I want to help Facebook, not hurt it,” she tells the reporter.

What follows is presented as a high-stakes clash between a whistleblower, a journalist and a company facing growing questions about the impact of its platforms on society.

The clip also introduces Strong as Zuckerberg, a character previously portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg in David Fincher’s 2010 film.
