The D.A. says the pair went on a media campaign accusing deputies of assaulting and Tasing him. He says a jury agreed the claims were 'wholly false and fabricated'
HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A jury found that claims that Houston County deputies used excessive force during a March 2025 traffic stop were false, convicting two people who engaged in a campaign against Houston County deputies.
A news release from Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards says a jury found mother Uana Ash and son Omar Wright falsely accused Houston County deputies after a March 8, 2025 I-75 traffic stop.
The two were convicted and sentenced on Tuesday of making a false statements.
Edwards also says the pair "misled" the Houston County NAACP into holding a new conferencing airing their claims.
Ash and Wright claimed that deputies violent beating on the windows of the car Wright was in, allegedly pulled a gun on him and Tased him while unconscious. Ash claimed that the deputies were "bloodthirsty" during the traffic stop.
But, after reviewing dash and body camera video, law enforcement charged the two with making false statements.
Prosecutors say the dash camera video showed a struggle between deputies and Wright after he refused to leave the vehicle on March 8, 2025.
The district attorney's office says deputies tased Wright to prevent the struggle from spilling into the active lanes of the interstate.
Wright was charged with obstruction of an officer as a result of the struggle.
