Three Jersey City Pharmacies to Pay $1.73M to Settle Fraudulent Billing Claims - Jersey City Times

Three pharmacies based in Jersey City have agreed to pay a combined $1.73 million to settle allegations that they fraudulently billed federal health care programs for medications they never dispensed, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced.

According to federal investigators, inventory records revealed that the pharmacies did not purchase enough medication from wholesalers to match the volume they billed to Medicare Part D and New Jersey Medicaid between 2020 and 2022.

The largest settlement involved 2818 JFK Pharmacy LLC, which agreed to pay $1 million to resolve allegations it submitted false claims from January 2, 2020, through January 24, 2022. 518 Summit Care Pharmacy LLC will pay $600,000 for similar alleged misconduct spanning January 2020 through March 2022. 1850 Greenville Pharmacy LLC agreed to a $133,000 settlement tied to claims filed between January 2020 and April 2022.

Two pharmacies outside Jersey City, in Bayonne and Elizabeth, were also named in the settlement. 327 Alexandria Pharmacy LLC in Elizabeth and 516 Broadway Care Pharmacy LLC in Bayonne will each pay $101,000.

“All pharmacies that bill federal programs must ensure accurate billing and may not bill for medications they never dispensed,” Habba said. “The Office will continue to pursue entities that fail in their essential responsibilities and engage in fraud, waste, or abuse.”
