The Chinese Communist Party was given “supreme access” to all data from TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, a fired senior executive at the tech giant has claimed in an explosive lawsuit brought against his former employer.
New information from a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by Yintao “Roger” Yu in San Francisco’s Superior Court has come to light in recent days, which raises further concerns about the app’s operations in Western nations.
Some of the more shocking allegations contained within the lawsuit includes a claim that China’s ruling party had secret offices inside the company, where members of a “Committee” monitored how “core Communist values” were being advanced.
The “Committee” was comprised of a special unit of Chinese Communist Party members specially selected to ensure ByteDance complied with their wishes, Mr Yu’s complaint said.
The former engineering executive filed the suit earlier this month, which claims he was fired after raising concerns about alleged illegal practices within the company.
Several US media organisations obtained copies of the lawsuit and a more recent complaint filed by Mr Yu last Friday, which brought forward the startling accusation that the Chinese Communist Party maintained “supreme access to all the company data, even data stored in the United States”.
The company was also “responsive to the CCP’s requests” to share, elevate and remove TikTok content, Mr Yu said, claiming TikTok functioned as a “propaganda” arm of China.
