TikToker Appeals $10M Verdict for False Accusations in University of Idaho Murders - AsatuNews.co.id

A Texas-based TikTok user, Ashley Guillard, is appealing a $10 million judgment after a jury found her liable for defaming a University of Idaho professor. The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals received notice of the appeal on Thursday, April 11, 2026, according to court documents.

Guillard, who goes by "Ashley Solves Mysteries" on TikTok, had falsely accused history professor Rebecca Scofield of involvement in the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students. The jury had determined in February that Guillard's accusations caused Scofield financial difficulties and distress. TMZ reported that Guillard compared the legal proceedings to the "Salem Witch trials."

The lawsuit centered on videos Guillard posted on TikTok, where she baselessly claimed Scofield had a romantic relationship with one of the slain students. Guillard cited tarot card readings as evidence, alleging Scofield ordered the murders. Bryan Kohberger pleaded guilty in July 2025 to the brutal stabbing deaths of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle.

Scofield filed the defamation suit in December 2022, citing fears for her safety and family, as the accusations went viral. Guillard, representing herself, has argued that the verdict did not align with the evidence, according to filings.
