Timothy Busfield is maintaining his innocence after being officially charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse.

Speaking with PEOPLE on Tuesday, Jan. 13, the actor’s civil attorney Larry Stein denies all allegations that Busfield, 68, engaged in unlawful sexual conduct with 11-year-old twin boys.

“He's shocked,” Stein says of Busfield. “He's absolutely shocked. He's devastated and will defend himself, because these are absolutely false allegations.”

Busfield, who is married to Melissa Gilbert, surrendered to police on Jan. 13, four days after Officer Marvin Brown from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) issued a warrant for his arrest alleging one of the minor victims was 7 years old when the incidents began.

Per the warrant, obtained by PEOPLE, the victims' parents stated that the minors were child actors who met Busfield on the set of the FOX series The Cleaning Lady, where he served as a director. The television show ran from...
