Tonight, heartbreaking reports emerged from Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. According to the Taliban government and witnesses, Pakistan’s airstrikes hit a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul, where many vulnerable civilians were receiving treatment and medical care. Many of those inside were civilians—patients struggling with addiction, medical staff, and other non-combatants.
Hospitals are meant to be places of healing, hope, and protection. Under international humanitarian law, medical facilities and civilians must never be targeted during conflict. If a hospital has indeed been struck, it represents a deeply alarming incident that demands immediate attention from the international community.
The people inside such facilities are among the most vulnerable members of society. Many were there to rebuild their lives and recover from addiction. They were not soldiers. They were human beings seeking treatment and a second chance.
The world must not ignore the suffering of civilians in Afghanistan. Every life lost is a tragedy. Every civilian casualty deserves recognition, justice, and accountability.
