Senator Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he had reviewed a whistleblower complaint about Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard and agreed with the two inspectors general who concluded that it is "not credible."
The complaint, filed in May, relates to allegations that Gabbard restricted the distribution of a "highly classified intelligence report" for "political reasons," according to a letter to lawmakers sent by Christopher Fox, inspector general of the intelligence community.
It also alleges that the relevant government counsel responsible "failed to report a potential crime" to the Justice Department per Fox's letter.
Cotton gave the update in a Thursday morning post on X, saying the inspectors general and Gabbard had taken the "necessary steps to ensure the material has handled and transmitted appropriately in accordance with law."
"To be frank, it seems like just another effort by the president’s critics in and out of government to undermine policies that they don’t like," Cotton said. "It’s definitely not credible allegations of waste, fraud, or abuse."
The first inspector general to review the complaint, Biden appointee Tamara Johnson, had found the allegation against Gabbard appeared to be not credible. Fox, her successor, arrived at a similar conclusion.
