WLOS — Officials in Hendersonville are taking steps to address diversity, equality and inclusion within its government and in the city, but not everyone is on board. City manager John Connet says councilmembers voted to form a committee dedicated to implementing these policies and procedures a few years ago. They’ve since hired a consulting firm to assist. It's a project that cost the city $147,000.

The town of Black Mountain is cracking down on taggers and vandals that police say are leaving their mark around town. Police say the town of approximately 8,400 residents has been hit by a recent spree of incidents that have gotten the attention of locals, businesses and now law enforcement. Officials are hoping townspeople will jump to the opportunity to stop taggers and vandals in an effort to maintain the beauty of Black Mountain.
COMMUNITY ON ALERT AFTER BUSINESSES 'PLAGUED WITH GRAFFITI,' POLICE SAY

Buncombe County leaders are exploring ways to bring all county employees up to living wage standards. The group Just Economics of Western North Carolina said the living wage for Buncombe County is $20.10 an hour. During a budget workshop this week, county staff said employees at 64 positions are not paid a living wage. Staff said some of those positions are open, but it would require an additional $129,000 to get all employees to the living wage level.
