The recently published trade union law public consultation report should have better separated the different opinions of employees and employers, the Vice-President of Directors Board of Macao Chamber of Commerce, Vong Kok Seng, stated to Chinese-language newspaper Macao Daily.
The final report on the public consultation held on the bill proposal was revealed this weekend, with the consultation report stating that 24,537 opinions and suggestions were received, of which 55.3 per cent of all opinions were submitted by individuals, with 42 per cent by associations and only 2.3 per cent by companies.
According to Vong, the report did not separate the employers’ and employees’ opinions to deal with, which could reduce the business sector’s sense of recognition and acceptance of the report.
Many opinions submitted during the public consultation, opposed some of the limitations proposed on the right to hold strikes, the type of trade union associations that will be allowed, and the employment sectors covered.
The businessman noted that since the number of employers who submitted opinions was certainly smaller than that of employees, in terms of view collection, if the government simply used the majority of opinions as to the basis for legislation, it could be a “limited and unfair” assessment.
The government was also advised to carefully consider the feasibility and operability of these opinions so that future trade union regulations will adjust to the current social situation...
