President Donald Trump’s administration allowed for “political priorities” to influence its Title VI antisemitism investigation into Columbia, a Department of Justice whistleblower told Congress and federal agency regulators Monday.
The complaint claims that the federal investigations into antisemitism at Columbia and 59 other universities, opened in March 2025, were “subordinate to political priorities rather than the enforcement of civil rights” and represent “violations of law, rule, or regulation; gross mismanagement; gross waste of funds; and abuse of authority.” This playbook led to “predetermined outcomes” that meant “no complete investigation was conducted” at Columbia, the complaint alleges.
The investigations by the Task Force to Combat Antisemitism—an interagency coalition made up of the DOJ, Department of Health and Human Services, and Department of Education—canceled federal funding last year to high-profile universities and later confronted them with sweeping settlement demands, as pro-Palestinian protests on campus became a focal point of scrutiny. The complaint describes the investigations that led to these outcomes “as a pretext to punish the universities and some of their faculty.”
Columbia declined to comment on the whistleblowers’ revelations. The White House, HHS, and Education Department did not respond to Spectator’s multiple requests for comment on their reactions to the whistleblower’s account.
