President Donald Trump claimed to have a 100% approval rating on the economy — and complained that the obviously incorrect figure wasn't higher, a mathematical impossibility.
Trump made the false claim in a sit-down interview with Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman.
"Our country right now is doing better than it's ever done. You know, when I see polls on the economy, I should have 150%, not 100%, because we have the greatest — this is the golden age of America," Trump claimed.
"What's being built now in this country has never, ever been built. And … we are literally in the golden age of America, and I actually think people are starting" to realize that, the president continued.
In reality, Trump is deeply underwater on the economy as Americans grapple with the so-called "affordability crisis" with increased prices on groceries and fuel.
Only about one in three respondents approve of Trump's handling of the economy while about two in three disapprove, according to the president's latest polling average as calculated by polling analyst Nate Silver.
Trump's critics on social media were figuratively rolling their eyes over his easily disprovable claim.
"Tariffs. Gas Prices. Groceries. 23,000 jobs lost in July. The nation needs a check on the president, and Republicans will never do it," tweeted Rep. Paul Tonko, R-N.Y.
"What polls are you looking at?? Oh, the ones in your head?" posted another user on X.
Added another: "Desperate. Deluded. Defeated Donold in Denial."
