Former President Donald Trump falsely claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris met with Russian President Vladimir Putin just days before the invasion of Ukraine.
However, there is no record of Harris and Putin ever meeting at all.
Speaking at a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday, Trump blamed his general election opponent for the Russian invasion launched in February 2022.
“If these people win, you’re not gonna have any meetings,” he said. “You’re not gonna have anything. There’ll be chaos in our country. And we just can’t let it happen. We can’t let it happen. We can’t let it happen.”
The former president then claimed that President Joe Biden dispatched Harris to meet with Putin in an attempt to stop the looming invasion of Ukraine.
“Remember when Joe Biden sent Kamala to Europe to stop the war in Ukraine?” Trump stated. “She met with Putin and then three days later, he attacked. How did she do? Do you think she did a good job? She met with Putin to tell him, ‘Don’t do it.’ And three days later, he attacked. That’s when the attack started. Did you know that, General?”
Harris attended the Munich Security Conference in Germany in February 2022 and delivered remarks on Feb. 19 in which she warned that Russia “will create a false pretext for invasion.” Putin did not attend the meeting. Just days later, Russia invaded.
