Testing the bounds of his authority, President Donald Trump fired two of the three Democratic members of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, leaving it without the quorum needed to conduct business.
The ousters, carried out late Monday night, marked the first presidential firing of EEOC commissioners since the civil rights agency’s founding 60 years ago. The purged commissioners—Jocelyn Samuels and Charlotte Burrows—said in statements they’re considering legal challenges.
