As Arizona counties prepare to certify results of the midterm election before a Monday deadline, Republicans, including gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and former President Donald Trump, continue to falsely claim errors in the election process produced faulty results.

Lake, who lost the gubernatorial race to Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (D) by less than a one-point margin, has refused to concede and filed a lawsuit against Maricopa County election officials accusing them of violating elections laws.
After ballot-tabulator printers malfunctioned at about 20% of polling locations in Maricopa County on Election Day, officials urged voters to use secure drop boxes, and Republicans have seized on the issue—which is fairly common—to claim they led to inaccuracies in the results.
Trump on Monday promoted the unfounded claims that the ballot tabulator issues skewed results in Hobbs’ favor, accusing Arizona election officials of running a “criminal voting operation” and demanding that Lake be “installed Governor of Arizona,” he wrote on Truth Social.
Steve Bannon—who served as Trump’s chief strategist and helped him plot to try to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election—is counseling Lake in her bid to contest the results and has also claimed voting machine errors contributed to Lake’s loss.
