Trump rallies fan base in Texas as midterms loom - KATV

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) – Former President Donald Trump held a rally Saturday in Texas, firing up his supporters ahead of the critical 2022 midterms.

18 months after the former president left the White House, fans greeted him enthusiastically at the Austin Convention Center. Part of Trump's “American Freedom Tour," the rally was an all-day event with appearances by other conservative politicians and public figures.

Trump arrived to both cheers and protests.

"So excited, very excited," said Trump supporter Kathy Hunter. "It's thrilling."

“I am here because Trump is speaking here and his supporters are here and I am amazed at how ignorant and uninformed they are,” said protestor David Kaim.

Trump was rallying in the capital of Texas and aiming right at Washington.

“Grocery prices are skyrocketing and you can't even find baby formula to feed your infant yet we're approving in one session, $40 billion,” Trump said.

Both sides were fired up about big issues during his midterm election year. Trump rehashed false claims of a stolen election, something prominent Republicans fear could hold the party back as it tries to regain control of Congress.

Trump also hinted ahead to 2024.
