Trump speaks at CPAC, hints at 2024 run - KATV

ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS12) — Donald Trump seemed to go back and forth when speaking at CPAC in Orlando, with no clear answer on whether of not he is running for a second term.

His remarks were a mixture of trying to set up Republicans for a win in the upcoming midterm elections while also taking a victory lap on past accomplishments.

"We did it twice and we’ll be doing it again a third time," said Trump. "Under Joe Biden we’re loosing our country in a way no different than if we had lost it in a war."

Trump called the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine an "assault on humanity" but offered both condemnation and praise for Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

"The problem isn’t just that Putin is smart - of course he’s smart - its that our leaders are dumb," said Trump. "This atrocity never should have happened never would have happened if our election wasn’t rigged and I was president."

Trump continued to rehash false claims of a stolen election, something prominent Republicans fear could hold the party back as it tries to regain control of Congress in the 2022 midterms.

Chris Walker, Director of Regional Communications for the Republican National Committee, emphasized the parties focus on the future while speaking with CBS12 News reporter Jay O'Brien.

"Well we’re all focused on 2022," said Walker, adding that Trump also spoke on inflation and the economy in his speech.
