Trump to name Hunter Biden whistleblower as acting IRS head: Report - KEYE

WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump plans to name a whistleblower in the Hunter Biden case as acting director of the IRS, according to CNN.

Gary Shapley had testified to Congress in 2022 that the Justice Department was slow-walking its inquiry into wrongdoing by Hunter Biden. He was promoted last month to Deputy Chief of IRS Criminal Investigations as fellow whistleblower Joseph Ziegler received a promotion to senior advisor for IRS reform.

Shapely, according to the outlet, will soon become the agency’s acting director.

Representatives of the White House, IRS and Treasury Department did not respond to a request for comment from The National News Desk about the reporting Wednesday.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in March lauded Shapley as a “veteran civil servant” who would “further the agency's focus on collections, modernization, and customer service.”

“I appreciate Sen. @ChuckGrassley's efforts in Congress to support whistleblower protections in order to improve transparency, accountability and root out the culture of retaliation,” he added.

The House Oversight Committee on Wednesday reacted to the reporting by describing it as “BIG NEWS.”

“BIG NEWS: Gary Shapley, the IRS whistleblower who exposed the DOJ’s cover-up of the criminal investigation of Hunter Biden, is now Acting IRS Commissioner,” it wrote. “Congratulations, Gary—your courage and professionalism will transform the IRS.”
