President Trump’s selective release of classified documents about the 2020 election doesn’t change the core conclusion of the intelligence community: that not a single vote was altered in the contest.

Nonetheless, Democrats say the president is clearly laying the groundwork to interfere in future elections.

Trump was mocked by some for his top-line reveal — that China had accessed voter data in 18 states.

In fact, such information is often available for purchase, and political campaigns often do so as part of their efforts to reach voters.

Democrats, however, saw Trump signaling an effort to interfere in future elections.

“Understand what happened tonight. The president was setting the context. He was setting the basis for him to turn around at midnight on election day and say, ‘I warned you. I warned you back in July that the Chinese were doing X, Y, Z, and the Venezuelans were doing X, Y, Z, and all this terrible stuff. It happened tonight. I am deploying federal officers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to seven states. They will be seizing ballot boxes,’” said Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin in a Friday morning press conference claimed — counter to the conclusion of U.S. intelligence agencies — that voting machines could be hacked.
