What’s happening: President Donald Trump and other conservatives are falsely claiming that routine childhood vaccines administered in the U.S. contain as much volume as a bottle of soda, leading to health concerns.
A closer look: The claim apparently originated with Trump during an August 10 signing ceremony for an executive order calling for changes to the U.S. childhood immunization schedule. During the event, Trump stated:
“I saw this early on, and I’ve seen proof of it — where they have a vaccination that looks like the size of a bottle of soda poured into a little child’s body, and bad things happen in too many cases.” Trump added, “This is an explosion, this is an epidemic.”
Recordings of Trump’s remarks quickly spread on websites and social media platforms.
For example, an X post from user @Acyn included a video of Trump’s statement, adding the caption, “Trump: They have a vaccination that’s the size of a bottle of soda poured into a child’s body.” The post received 2.9 million views.
