The former chief executive of a scandal-hit hospital trust was repeatedly warned about serious patient safety concerns as far back as 2017.
Sussex Police are now investigating 105 cases of alleged medical negligence, including 40 deaths, after two surgeons blew the whistle, claiming hospital bosses have tried to cover-up a scandal.
Dame Marianne Griffiths, who stepped down as boss of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust in 2022 after 13 years, was told by a whistleblower of serious misconduct amongst surgeons six years ago, including covering up the death of a patient, fraudulent behaviour and misleading a tribunal.
