One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has rejected claims she supports the White Australia policy, saying she has “never ever” advocated for it.
Speaking from London, Ms Hanson responded to criticism that followed comments she made on a podcast with UK anti-immigration activist Tommy Robinson.
“Well, I’m in London about to attend a dinner, but I had to bring to your attention the comments by the Sydney Morning Herald and The Guardian,” Ms Hanson said.
“You know those two leftist organisations that want to try and destroy myself and One Nation and discredit me?
“They’re false allegations that I wanted to introduce the White Australia policy. Not the case. Never, ever have I advocated that, and I don’t believe in it as well.”
The Sydney Morning Herald and The Guardian both wrote that Ms Hanson had "lamented" the end of the White Australia policy.
Ms Hanson said her position had always been about limiting immigration and ensuring migrants integrated into Australian society.
“Yes, I’ve been strong on immigration, bringing the right people in the country, in a measured way and people who want to assimilate and be Australians,” she said.
Ms Hanson said she opposed only people from countries who wanted to wear the burqa, sharia law and child marriage.
The response comes after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticised Ms Hanson over the remarks she made during her podcast interview with Tommy Robinson.
