UAW president uses profanity to describe contract talks with Detroit 3 - Detroit Free Press

Expect to hear a lot about money, and who deserves what, in coming days.

Discussions continue to intensify among autoworkers, union leaders, auto company executives and investors who could be affected by a strike at 11:49 p.m. on Sept. 14 if the UAW fails to reach deals with the Detroit Three.

They're negotiating four-year contracts on behalf of an estimated 150,000 hourly workers.

"This trash can is overflowing with the bullshit that the Big Three continue to peddle," UAW President Shawn Fain said, showing a proposal submitted Tuesday by Ford Motor Co. dangling over a trash bin during his status update streamed live on the UAW Facebook page Thursday.

Headed into the Labor Day holiday, Fain turned up the pressure Thursday on companies to try harder and do better, accusing General Motors and Stellantis of an "insulting" and "counterproductive" and "illegal" refusal to bargain in good faith, revealing the UAW filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board. Both automakers expressed surprise, and immediately denied wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, Fain warned that Ford should take notice that its workers at the Kentucky Truck Plant and Louisville Assembly, who belong to UAW Local 862, "are fired up and they're ready to throw down if they have to. And 862 isn't alone."

What drives union member expectations are record company profits, he said. "Our goal is to bargain a fair contract. But if we have to strike to win economic and social justice, then we will."
