There is information about an alleged intention for Ukraine to sell coal from a Polish mine to Poland, but this is manipulation created by substituting an edited old publication. This information is being conveyed by Ukrinform, and this was reported in Telegram by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
A screenshot of an article is circulating in Polish social media, in which allegedly “the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stated readiness to sell coal to Poland from the Polish Bogdanka mine.”
Context of disinformation and the Center for Countering Disinformation’s position
“In reality, this is a manipulation of an old article from Do Rzeczy dating back to September 2022. The hoaxers edited the page code, changing the original headline.”
The Center for Countering Disinformation stressed that the real statement did not pertain to the resale of Polish coal.
“In the real statement by Denys Shmyhal, it referred to helping Poland in the form of 100,000 tonnes of Ukrainian coal, not to the resale of Polish coal.”
The Center also noted that the circulated information contains another sign of fakery.
“Additionally, Denys Shmyhal no longer holds the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine, which also indicates the news is fake”
