Employment lawsuits in the federal courts have almost doubled to more than 1000 cases a year as the jurisdiction’s lack of income threshold and promise of uncapped payouts turn it into what one workplace specialist calls an “unfair dismissal playground”.
The Albanese government said it would consider all options to stop cases flooding the system after previously unpublished figures showed the surge in dismissal and employment claims swamping the Fair Work Commission had spilled over into the courts.
