OMAHA, Neb. —
Employees at Union Pacific said their company broke the law when it denied veterans a day off on Veterans Day.
Union Pacific said it originally granted the day off to veteran employees, but then they denied those requests in a statement:
"Having that many people off work would negatively affect our ability to meet our customers' need, which would impact the nation's supply chain."
A section of Iowa code does allow employers to deny a request for a day off if the request would impact public health, safety or cause "significant" economic disruption.
But even then, employees must be notified at least 10 days in advance.
