The Trump Organization, as the Trump Corporation and other entities are known, is under investigation by local, state and federal authorities regarding a variety of topics. On 1 July 2021, the State of New York indicted two Trump Organization entities and their chief financial officer (CFO), accusing them of involvement in a tax fraud scheme spanning at least 15 years, in which compensation to the CFO and others was significantly underreported. The scheme allegedly included payment of employee rent, tuition and other expenses by the Trump Organization so that taxes for that compensation would not be reported. The CFO pleaded guilty in August 2022 to 15 criminal counts as part of an agreement in which he would serve five months in prison, pay US$1.9 million in back taxes, interest and penalties, and testify at the trial of the Trump Organization. It has been reported that additional ongoing areas of investigation are whether the Trump Organization, former president Trump and his children inflated or deflated property values to banks, insurers and tax entities.
