University Professor Accused of Deleting Whistleblower's Paper in Retaliation - en.sedaily.com

A university professor indicted for allegedly receiving a luxury handbag from a graduate student is now accused of retaliating against the whistleblower by deleting their academic paper. The Ministry of Education has launched an investigation into whether the professor abused academic authority to harm the complainant.

According to Seoul Economic Daily's reporting on the 4th, the Ministry of Education recently discovered that Professor A at a private university in Seoul allegedly had a former student B's academic paper removed from an academic database without authorization through an academic society where the professor serves as chairman.

B claimed, "After I reported Professor A's acceptance of gifts to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, I discovered in March last year—just before the police investigation—that my paper had been forcibly deleted from the academic database service."

The deleted paper had been published in an academic journal where Professor A exerts influence as an editor and was registered in the database. The database company reportedly told B when asked about the deletion that "a request came from the academic society's secretary-general citing 'a conflict relationship.'"

A database company official told this newspaper, "Since the academic society holds the copyright to the paper, we have no choice but to comply when they request removal due to problems."
