Democratic State Rep. Amy “Murri” Briel of Ottawa Thursday afternoon fired back at her November challenger Liz Bishop about a stunning video the Republican released earlier in the day.
In the video, Briel’s former Chief of Staff Laura Jackson describes the culture in Briel’s office as one of, among other things, prescription drug abuse, bonuses paid in cannabis, and sexual harassment.
In response, Briel Thursday called the video malicious and false, and said it had been released by MAGA operatives running Bishop’s campaign. Briel said Bishop is blindly loyal to proven abuser Donald Trump, and that her campaign is recycling claims proven to be false. Briel said the charges made in the video were taken to the Legislative Inspector General in 2025 and were found to be without merit. Briel also called for the immediate release of that report.
In the video, Jackson says she was sexually objectified by Briel, who allegedly said Jackson could be her “sexual prize” after winning the election. Jackson also describes abuse of Adderall in the office to encourage harder work. Jackson says Briel bought marijuana in Michigan, thus avoiding Illinois tax on the product, and giving it out to staffers as bonuses. Jackson also says Briel told her to make it difficult to schedule meetings for Briel with certain other elected officials, including State Senator Sue Rezin and DeKalb Mayor Cohen Barnes.
