[UPDATED] AI, whistleblowers helped Perkeso uncover fraudulent claims, says CEO - NST Online

PUTRAJAYA: Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven analysis and information from whistleblowers enabled the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) to uncover fraudulent claims under the Daya Kerjaya 2.0 employment incentive programme.

Perkeso group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the agency's Anti-Fraud Division began scrutinising claims at the end of 2024 using AI tools embedded within its internal systems.

"The analysis identified suspicious patterns and led Perkeso to hand over information on alleged fraudulent claims to the MACC in August 2025 for further action," he told reporters at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters here today.

He said Perkeso's intervention prevented losses of about RM5.33 million, while RM1.26 million had been recovered as of yesterday following enforcement action against employers involved.

"Losses could have reached about RM9 million had the suspicious claims gone undetected.

"Although the companies involved appeared legitimate because they were registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and were making Perkeso contributions, deeper analysis revealed unusual trends, including workers being terminated immediately after the six-month wage subsidy period ended," he said, adding that field investigations were conducted once such patterns were detected.
