[UPDATED] Ex-civil servant remanded over RM300,000 false claims scheme - NST Online

KUALA LUMPUR: A former civil servant has been arrested for allegedly submitting documents with false particulars to fraudulently obtain about RM300,000 in financial assistance.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) obtained a four-day remand order, until July 17, against the suspect to facilitate further investigations.

Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri issued the order at the Kuala Lumpur magistrate's court today.

According to an MACC source, the suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested at about 6pm yesterday after he turned up to give his statement at the MACC Kuala Lumpur office.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly committed the offences between 2020 and 2025 while he was still serving as a civil servant.

He is believed to have used the personal details of 11 individuals without their knowledge to apply for financial assistance under a government aid programme, before channelling the monthly payments ranging from RM500 to RM1,000 into his personal bank account.

The scheme is believed to have resulted in fraudulent claims amounting to approximately RM300,000.

MACC Kuala Lumpur director Mohammad Zakkuan Talib confirmed the arrest when contacted, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
