UPG charge law office employee with Grand Larceny for theft of $27K - WUTR/WFXV - CNYhomepage.com

UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Utica Police Department reports the employee of a local attorney’s office has been charged with grand larceny after allegedly falsifying paychecks to give herself bonuses, resulting in the theft of over $27,000.

According to police, in early September, a local attorney’s office reported that they had an accounting firm perform a financial audit, during which it was discovered that an employee had allegedly stolen over $27,000 over the course of a year.

Due to the large sum of money involved, the case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division. Through their investigation, it was learned that 42-year-old Karen Durant of Ilion was allegedly altering her salary to receive bonuses in her paycheck of between $500 to $2000, over multiple payroll weeks.
