RALEIGH — U.S. Attorney W. Ellis Boyle on Tuesday announced the launch of a revised Eastern District of North Carolina U.S. Attorney’s Office Whistleblower Program designed to increase accountability for corporations involved in federal fraud, crimes connected to criminal aliens, and support for cartels.
“Our office focuses on companies, not just individuals, that steal taxpayer dollars from government programs, help cartels, and aid criminal aliens. Too often, companies that receive government funds are the principal actors of criminal conduct,” Boyle said. “This EDNC Whistleblower Program makes it easier for insiders, or anyone else who have knowledge of corporate crime, to come forward with that information before it is too late. Folks can win-win by stopping fraud and avoiding prison.”
The EDNC posted the updated program on the district’s website. While the district previously allowed whistleblowers to report corporate misconduct, the revised program adds provisions for leniency for individuals with inside knowledge of crimes including:
• Fraud involving federal government programs, including state-administered programs
• International cartels or transnational criminal organizations
• Money laundering
• Violations of federal immigration law
• Material support for terrorism, including cartel-related activities
• Corporate sanctions violations
• Trade, tariff and customs violations
• Procurement fraud
