PETALING JAYA:
The US government should sue PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over his claim that US embassy officials had offered to help topple the government in 2014, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer said today.
He said a diplomatic denial by the US embassy was not enough. If the embassy was telling the truth when it rejected Hadi’s claim, Washington should consider legal action to defend its reputation and the integrity of its diplomatic representatives.
“This is a very serious matter. A mere diplomatic denial by the US is not enough. If Hadi is telling the truth, then the US has some very serious questions to answer over the alleged attempt to interfere in Malaysia’s internal political affairs,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.
Earlier today, US chargé d’affaires David Gamble said the US had never sought to determine Malaysia’s political leadership.
Rayer said Hadi’s claims were “not casual allegations made over a cup of coffee” but was an “extraordinarily serious allegation concerning national security” as Hadi had claimed that PAS leaders were approached by American representatives and offered assistance to bring down the Barisan Nasional government in 2014.
Hadi also said he had subsequently met the US ambassador, Rayer said.
