Utah officials, Lee campaign push back against claims of election fraud in Senate primary - KUTV 2News

(KUTV) — After a Utah lawmaker made claims of election fraud in the U.S. Senate primary, state election officials and Sen. Mike Lee’s campaign are pushing back.

“As we look forward to Election Day, our campaign has every confidence in Utah’s elected county clerks and the Lieutenant Governor’s office to oversee free and fair elections,” said Matt Lusty, Lee campaign spokesman, in a statement to KUTV 2News. “We thank them for their service.”

Ryan Cowley, Utah elections director, added, “The Office of the Lieutenant Governor will thoroughly investigate any election issues. We are confident that Utah’s elections are secure and accurate.”

Rep. Phil Lyman (R-Blanding) made a Facebook post early Sunday morning alleging he had received “reports” that several votes for Lee were being changed to one of his primary opponents, Becky Edwards. Lyman claimed that “printed receipts” from in-person voting machines “reveal this unauthorized shift.”

Yet, Lyman did not provide any evidence of any such receipts.

Lyman later reported to the lieutenant governor’s office that the allegations were based in Davis and Wasatch counties. Cowley said his office reached out to clerks there on Sunday.

“No voters or poll workers in those counties were notified about any issues related to ballot marking. At that point, eight voters in Wasatch County had used its voting machines.
