Van Hollen, Cardin Share Support for Biden District Court Nominee Julie Rubin with Senate Judiciary Committee | US Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland - Senator Chris Van Hollen

Senators had recommended Judge Rubin to President Joe Biden

Today, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) urged the Judiciary Committee to swiftly process the nomination of Baltimore City Circuit Court Julie Rubin to fill the upcoming vacancy on the federal District Court for Maryland. Both senators provided introductory remarks for a hearing held today.

“Judge Julie Rubin will bring tremendous experience to the courtroom after serving as a trial judge for more than a decade handling a diverse range of civil and criminal matters in Baltimore,” the senators said. “We are pleased that Judge Rubin received the American Bar Association’s highest rating, and we know that she will well and faithfully carry out her judicial oath by upholding the rule of law and providing equal justice for all Marylanders.”

Judge Rubin was nominated to fill the future vacancy created when Judge Ellen Hollander, appointed by President Obama in 2011, announced her intention in January to take senior status. President Joe Biden nominated Judge Rubin for this vacancy on November 3. The ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary rated her “well qualified” to serve in the federal judiciary. The ABA evaluates the integrity, professional competence, and judicial temperament of nominees.
