Vero Beach woman accused of cyberstalking officer after posting false claims - WPEC

VERO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A Vero Beach woman is accused of cyberstalking after allegedly posting false stalking claims and photos of a police officer and his family online.

An investigation by the Vero Beach Police Department (VBPD) allegedly revealed that 29-year-old Mariah Keller made false accusations about a Vero Beach Police Officer, claiming he was stalking her.

Police say Keller posted the claims in Facebook groups, sharing photos of the officer and his family in an alleged attempt to damage his reputation.

In addition to the posts, officers say Keller also visited the police station "numerous" times to try to file complaints against the officer.

An investigation into her claims found that her statements were unfounded and untrue, per VBPD. Keller was warned to stop spreading the harmful accusations, but she didn't.

"This case serves as a reminder that false accusations and online harassment are taken seriously by law enforcement," VBPD said in a post to Facebook. "We will continue to investigate and hold accountable those who misuse online platforms to target individuals or law enforcement officers."

On Friday, Keller was booked on counts of cyberstalking, giving false reports to law enforcement, and resisting arrest without violence.
