VERO BEACH — A 29-year-old woman was arrested on charges of cyberstalking a local police officer after authorities said she repeatedly posted false accusations online that he was stalking her, along with photos of the officer and his family.
Mariah Keller was booked Friday on counts of cyberstalking, giving false reports to law enforcement and resisting arrest without violence, according to the Vero Beach Police Department.
Police said an investigation revealed Keller made the unfounded claims in an attempt to damage the officer’s reputation. She allegedly shared the false stalking allegations and images on Facebook groups, despite being warned by authorities to stop spreading the accusations.
Keller also visited the police station multiple times to file complaints against the officer, authorities said.
In a statement, the Vero Beach Police Department emphasized that it takes false accusations and online harassment seriously. “We will continue to investigate and hold accountable those who misuse online platforms to target individuals or law enforcement officers,” the department said.
