VIDEO%3A+Different+factors+draw+lawyers+to+underserved+areas - North Carolina Lawyers Weekly

Having grown up in a rural area, Leslie Albritton, the chief of staff for Legal Aid of North Carolina’s office in Greensville, can speak from personal experience about what draws lawyers to work in “legal deserts,” places where legal counsel is hard — or even impossible — to find. In this video, her observations include:

“If you ask 10 rural attorneys why they continue to work in rural areas, you would probably get 10 different answers.”

“I moved to Eastern North Carolina to be closer to my husband’s family, and I can honestly say that, at this point, I can’t imagine living or working or raising my family, really, any place else.”

“If you are a person who wants to feel needed, there’s no other work like rural work.”

Watch for North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s cover story “Legal Deserts” to be published later this month in the print edition and to be posted online soon at nclawyersweekly.com.
