In May, Vienna Township tax payers will be asked to approve an additional levy that will generate about $313,000/annually.

"We can not compete with most of the cities, and even other security type businesses." said Pegg.
Pegg says recently township officials approved an increase in its number of full-time officers, and an increase to their hourly pay rate from $17/hour to $20/hour.
"Over the law few years, the wages for the surrounding areas have dramatically gone up for police officers," said Chief Bob Ludt. "What happened was I would bring on officers that were looking for a career in law enforcement, I would get them trained up and then they would leave onto higher paying jobs."
"We did not shoot for the moon, we just wanted to keep it reasonable and keep the employees from leaving us, so we set the rate for full time at $20," said Pegg.
The additional 3 mill levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $105/annually. But, Pegg says the township plans to let two previous levies expire which will off set the additional cost.
