MOORHEAD, M.N. (Valley News Live) - A local veteran from Moorhead is speaking out after his flag was stolen from his home.
He says the incident happened last month on February 17.
“For someone who’s served under that flag and seen some of his friends come back under it. It means a lot,” said Scott Sims, a veteran who served in the military for 21 years.
“They had to have yanked it off. I don’t know why,” said Scott Sims.
Sims looks at it as an act of total disrespect.
“I think anybody that steals the American flag is disrespecting everybody that’s served underneath it,” said Scott Sims.
While Scott is disgusted by the incident, he’s still fond of the memories from when he served in the military.
“Every minute of it that I was in uniform, I enjoyed it,” said Scott Sims.
Suki Sims, Scott’s wife and a veteran herself, is proud of her husband’s military career.
“I’m proud of him. He’s a great man,” said Suki Sims.
The memories Scott remembers so vividly from the military still affect him to this day.
“I’ve had a few nightmares. Yeah. Not going to lie to you there,” said Scott Sims.
Scott says that whoever stole his flag should be ashamed of their actions.
“Go home. Go back to where you came from. Because if you desecrate my flag, you’re not an American,” said Scott Sims.
He filed a police report soon after the incident happened.
Valley News Live has reached out to Moorhead police on the issue and they’re continuing to look into it.
