WA Premier Roger Cook backs health minister's account of alleged rape at Perth Children's Hospital amid conflicting information - ABC News

WA's premier has backed his health minister's account of what happened the night a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside Perth Children's Hospital, as multiple accounts emerge to contradict what the minister told the public.

In January last year, a 13-year-old male patient crawled across a common area on the mental health ward 5A, slipped into another patient's room and allegedly raped her.

The day the allegations were aired, Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson told a press conference staff were afraid of the child and sequestered themselves in the nursing station for a period of two to three hours, during which time the alleged sexual assault occurred.

The minister said it was inexplicable why staff didn't call security and said they had faced disciplinary action and no longer worked for the hospital.

But ABC Investigations today revealed a Clinical Incident Review stated security had been called, a claim which was backed up by a whistleblower who was on shift at the hospital at the time the girl was allegedly raped.

The review includes notes of the CCTV footage from the ward that night, which says nurses did perform checks on patients during that time period...
