Waco nursing facilities and acute care hospital agree to pay $6.5 million to resolve allegations of submitting false claims to federal healthcare programs - MyTexasDaily.com

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Providence Park, Inc. and Ascension Providence have agreed to pay over $6.5 million to resolve allegations of submitting false claims to federal healthcare programs, according to a press release from the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas.

The settlement addresses allegations that Providence Park, which operates a skilled nursing facility in Waco, submitted unnecessary therapy claims, while Ascension Providence, which runs an acute care hospital in Waco, allegedly submitted false claims for outpatient therapy services. Acting United States Attorney Margaret F. Leachman emphasized the importance of accountability, stating, "My office will hold providers accountable when they submit inaccurate claims or seek reimbursement for medically unnecessary services."

Both entities received cooperation credit for their proactive measures, including disclosing internal investigation results and identifying overpayments, as per the Department of Justice’s guidelines. The civil settlement resolves a lawsuit filed under the False Claims Act's whistleblower provision, allowing private parties to sue on behalf of the United States. The claims resolved by the settlement are allegations only, with no determination of liability.
