A local judge has been honored by one of the state’s biggest Hispanic groups of judges for his work and commitment to the community.
Webb County Court-at-Law II Judge Victor Villarreal received the Judge of the Year award from the Hispanic Issued Section of the State Bar of Texas for his work on the court and the community.
At its yearly meeting and reception, the Bar recognized Villarreal for the 2022-23 honor, as the award celebrates distinguished judges and their service.
“Grateful to the section council, the nominations committee, Chief Justice Dori Contreras for the nomination, Chief Justice Rebeca Martinez for introducing me and Chair Novert Morales for the recognition,” the judge said. “The work of the Webb County Court-at-Law II staff, our efforts to lead during the pandemic on hearing cases online and our designation as a Judicial Center of Excellence were all noted as reasons for the recognition. I’m very grateful!”
Villarreal said the court’s recognitions are possible because of the dedication and support of the Webb County Court-at-Law II staff as he considers them “amazing professionals” and a blessing to work with them.
Amid their hard work and dedication to the office, Villarreal said he was not expecting the recognition.
