West Virginia locals encouraged to "tip the bill" - WV News

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (WV News) — A social media trend known as the “tip the bill” challenge has garnered a lot of attention. The challenge, which dates back to 2018, went viral and appears to be trending again this year. The challenge is all about kindness at restaurants and encourages patrons to tip 100% of the amount of their bill.

Facebook groups have even been created to share the kindness of patrons, and it doesn’t happen at just restaurants. The “tip the bill” challenge can be applied to any service bill. It is a very simple but thoughtful gesture, especially during economic troubles or during the holidays.

Many tipped employees make less than the standard minimum wage for their state. As of January 1, 2022, the state minimum cash wage payment is the same as that required under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, which is $2.13 per hour.
