(NewsNation) — While always interested in the question of whether we are alone in the universe, Steven Spielberg has moved from fantastical classics like “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “E.T.” to a science fiction film rooted in historical reality. His new movie, “Disclosure Day,” was inspired by real-life government efforts to hide information about aliens from the public.

For more than 50 years, Spielberg has been fascinated with the greater universe beyond Planet Earth and its interaction with our world. As demand for disclosure on other lifeforms accelerated in recent years, the director aimed to explore cover-ups regarding UFOs and UAPs.

But exactly which real-life events inspired the movie?

Whistleblower David Grusch

Back in 2023, American intelligence official David Grusch’s interview with NewsNation thrust him into the public spotlight as an advocate for government transparency on UFOs.

While Spielberg and longtime collaborator David Koepp were writing the script for “Disclosure Day,” Grusch’s statements spurred them to move forward with the idea they had already been kicking around for years, according to NBC News.

During a UAP congressional hearing in July 2023, Grusch referred to government recoveries of “nonhuman biologics.” This term was used directly in the film by “Disclosure Day’s” whistleblower, Daniel Kellner, played by Josh O’Connor, when describing the classified information he aims to release.
