Former President Donald Trump is the leading candidate to clinch the Republican presidential nomination, but there are many in his party who are opposing his candidacy.
Among those who believe that Trump should not run in November 2024 are current and former government officials, including former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney.
There are many other officials from the executive branch, senators and representatives, as well as statewide executive officials who are not in favor of Trump’s candidacy.

There are 26 Republicans currently serving as governors, and eight of them are opposed to Trump’s candidacy. Here are the state leaders who are against the former president’s bid for reelection in 2024.
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum
Burgum is not only opposing Trump’s candidacy, he is going head-to-head against him. The former software CEO announced in June that was running for president, and is selling himself to the electorate as someone who will promote small town values in the national arena.
