Whistleblower Alerts Minister Kubayi To Death Threat For Refusing To Sign Dodgy Contract - The Bulrushes

Johannesburg – Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has made a shocking revelation that a whistleblower alerted her to a plot to kill a senior official in her department who refused to sign questionable contracts.

“Upon receiving this information, Minister Kubayi immediately contacted law enforcement agencies to investigate and protect the concerned official,” the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development said in a statement made available to The Bulrushes on Saturday, 22 August 2026.

“The Minister’s word of appreciation also goes to law enforcement agencies for acting swiftly in assessing the threat and putting mechanisms in place to protect the official and her family.

“The matter is under investigation by law enforcement agencies, and we hope for a speedy breakthrough so that this threat can be permanently eliminated.”

The department said the senior official’s refusal to do wrong things despite death threats shows that men and women of integrity exist in the public service.

“Corruption is not a victimless crime, and that is what this senior official has understood,” said Minister Kubayi.

“She stood her ground and acted with integrity and conscientiousness, and for that we must be grateful.

“Whistleblowers are critical to our fight against corruption because they help uncover what we would never have been able to uncover without them speaking out.

“Thanks to this courageous whistleblower, lives were saved.
